1. Overview

In 2007, the Engineering Research Center of New Light Source Technology and Equipment, Ministry of Education, was approved for construction as a pilot project. It passed the construction acceptance in 2018 and the reconstruction acceptance organized by the Ministry of Education in 2025. The Center is dedicated to the research and development of high-performance novel light source luminescence mechanisms and foundational materials, healthy light environment design and evaluation, advanced laser manufacturing, novel light source device preparation process technology, and complete equipment. It also focuses on the engineering and industrialization of technological achievements. The Center has established four R&D bases and one pilot-scale testing base. It has assembled a high-level scientific research team, comprising 16 professors and 28 associate professors/associate researchers. In the past three years, the Center has led 39 projects, including Major Scientific Research Instrument Development Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Cultivation Projects for Major Research Plans of the NSFC, general NSFC projects, Major Achievement Transformation Projects of Jiangsu Province, and Industrial Foresight Projects of Jiangsu Province. Additionally, it has undertaken over 100 projects related to technical services, technical consulting, and commissioned technology development, achieving contract revenues exceeding sixty million RMB. The Center has received 8 provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards. Furthermore, multiple team members have been honored with prestigious titles such as National Young High-level Talents, the Ministry of Education's "Program for New Century Excellent Talents," the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) Young Talent Support Project, and Jiangsu Province's "333 High-level Talents" in science and technology leadership.


2. Research highlight

The Engineering Research Center of New Light Source Technology and Equipment (Ministry of Education) at Southeast University is dedicated to serving national and local economic development. Its construction objectives are to focus on the frontiers of optical technology, develop high-end novel light sources and equipment for critical national needs, expand integrated optical applications, and lead the development of the optoelectronics industry. Centered on three main research directions—preparation of fundamental materials and development of high-performance novel light source devices; process technology and complete equipment for novel light source device fabrication; and diversified, integrated applications of novel light sources—the Center has established an R&D system that integrates materials, processes, equipment, and applications. It promotes the intersection and integration of disciplines such as mechanical engineering, optics, and electronic science and technology, and strengthens in-depth collaboration and synergy among universities, research institutions, and leading industrial enterprises. The Center strives to become a globally influential academic innovation and technology transfer hub in the field of high-end novel light sources and equipment. To this end, the Center has established the "Southeast University - Jiangsu Future City Public Space Development & Operation Co., Ltd. Joint R&D Center for Smart City and Lighting" in partnership with the Nanjing Lighting Group.
